Visakhapatnam: The Visakha Hotel Merchants Association hosted Visakhapatnam’s Police Commissioner at its office on Thursday evening, where members raised concerns over police treatment of hotels and tourists during night hours.
The Commissioner spent considerable time with association members, enquiring about several issues affecting the local hospitality trade. Members flagged police harassment of hotels during night-time operations, high-handed behaviour by auto drivers towards passengers at the railway station, and cases filed by police against tourists’ vehicles parked outside hotels.
Members also requested better security arrangements for tourists who shop late into the night and spend time with families along the beach at popular tourist spots across the state. In turn, the association offered to set up restaurants that would serve quality food through the night if adequate time and security were provided to tourists.
The Commissioner discussed a wide range of issues with members, sought their views, and was introduced to everyone present at the meeting. Balakrishna, President, Visakha Hotel Merchants Association, confirmed the details of the meeting.
