FSSAI Issues Strict Warning to Food Businesses Over Misleading ‘100%’ Claims in Labelling and Advertising

In a significant step towards modernizing and improving the efficiency of food import procedures, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has implemented a ‘Single Sign On’ (SSO) feature for Customs Officers. This new functionality is integrated into the Food Import Clearance System (FICS) and has been rolled out at Kakinada port and Talegaon, strategically located in India’s southern and western regions, respectively.

The introduction of SSO for Customs Officers is designed to provide a more unified and seamless access to the FICS platform. This will enable Customs personnel to conduct inspections and process food import clearances with greater speed and reduced administrative burden. By streamlining the login and access process, FSSAI aims to cut down on bureaucratic delays and enhance the overall efficiency of trade facilitation at these critical entry points for food products into India. This is a crucial development for food manufacturers and importers, promising quicker turnaround times and reduced operational costs.

This initiative is consistent with FSSAI’s ongoing commitment to leveraging technology for better regulatory oversight and ease of doing business. Improved coordination between FSSAI and Customs through such digital integrations is crucial for ensuring both food safety and timely delivery of imported food consignments, benefiting importers, consumers, and the broader food industry. It reflects the government’s push for digital transformation in regulatory compliance, making India a more attractive destination for global food trade.
