Series by Marriott Debuts in India via Landmark Partnership with The Fern Hotels & Resorts

Marriott International has unveiled its newest collection brand, Series by Marriott, in India through a strategic partnership with Concept Hospitality (CHPL), the hospitality arm of CG Hospitality, which manages the respected Fern Hotels & Resorts portfolio. This move marks a landmark moment for mid-scale and upscale hospitality in India. 

Co-Branding, Not Rebranding-Fern Retains Identity

Rather than rebranding existing Fern properties, the deal allows them to retain their independent identity while affiliating with the global Marriott network. CHPL’s flagship brands—The Fern, The Fern Residency, and The Fern Habitat—will become founding members of Series by Marriott™ across India.

Growth Not Just in Numbers, but in Access

At the time of announcement, the Fern portfolio included 84 active properties and 31 pipeline projects, collectively totaling around 115 hotels and 8,000 rooms. This affiliation will open these hotels to Marriott’s distribution platforms and its massive Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, which boasts around 237 million members.

A Small Equity Investment Signals Confidence

Marriott made a strategic minority equity investment in Concept Hospitality to show its long-term intent. Under the agreement, hotels will join Series by Marriott through long-term franchise or co-branding arrangements.

India: The Launchpad for a Global Brand

According to Marriott’s Asia-Pacific President Rajeev Menon, India is ideally positioned to become Marriott’s third-largest market globally within 2–3 years—only behind the US and China—with room count expected to cross 50,000 by 2030.

Strengthening CG’s Vision of Expansion

CG Hospitality envisions expanding The Fern brand to 500 hotels by 2030, leveraging its core values of sustainability and regionally rooted hospitality. Marriott’s support via Series by Marriott will help scale that vision globally. 

Benefits for Owners and Travelers Alike

For property owners, the co-branding model offers the advantage of Marriott’s digital tools, global distribution, and loyalty system, while allowing their hotels to preserve local character. Guests benefit from globally consistent standards, including clean, comfortable rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, tea/coffee service, and access to fitness or meeting spaces at select locations.

A Defining Shift in Indian Mid-Market Hospitality

In an exclusive interview, Rajeev Menon described the partnership as transformational for the mid-scale and upper mid-scale market. This alliance bridges legacy, scale, and global brand power—changing the game for homegrown brands expanding with global intent.
