The Ministry of Food Processing Industries in India is set to organize the second edition of World Food India from November 3 to 5, 2023, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The event will focus on investment opportunities in the food processing sector, with an emphasis on five key elements: millets, innovation and sustainability, White Revolution 2.0, making India an export hub, and technology and digitization. The government hopes that leading players in the global food processing sector will showcase their strengths during the three-day event.Minister of Food Processing Industries, Pashupati Kumar Paras, highlighted India’s potential as one of the fastest-growing economies with many investment opportunities, especially in the food processing sector. Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, the Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, also emphasized the government’s initiatives, including the PLI schemes in the food processing industry, which are enhancing marketing and branding efforts and standardizing quality parameters.
The International Year of Millets 2023 officially began on January 1, 2023, and the WFI 2023 will focus heavily on millets. India is a global leader in the production of millets, with an area of about 12.5 million hectares and a share of more than 15% of the world’s total production. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are the major millets producing states.
The WFI-2023 is expected to be a flagship global event, building on the experience of the previous edition held in 2017. The government’s focus on promoting investment opportunities in the food processing sector, along with its initiatives to enhance marketing and branding efforts, is expected to attract leading players in the sector from around the world. The event will provide an excellent platform for businesses to showcase their strengths and explore new opportunities for growth and expansion.
