Marriott International has reached a major regional milestone with the opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection in Vietnam, marking the company’s 700th property in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region. This achievement underscores Marriott’s strategic focus on expanding thoughtfully into diverse and culturally rich destinations beyond traditional gateway cities.
Legacy Mekong, Can Tho: A Storied Debut
The new hotel is a significant addition to the Autograph Collection brand, joining Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection as the second property under this brand in Vietnam. The Autograph Collection philosophy, which promotes properties that are “Exactly Like Nothing Else,” is showcased through the hotel’s deep integration with local culture.
Location: The resort is situated on a private islet along the Hau River in Can Tho, introducing storytelling-driven hospitality to the heart of Vietnam’s lush Mekong Delta, often referred to as the “Rice Basket of Vietnam.” It is approximately a three-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City.
Accommodation: Legacy Mekong, Can Tho features 86 elegantly designed bungalows and private pool villas, surrounded by eight hectares of tropical gardens on Au Islet. The design is inspired by the region’s natural elements, such as mangroves, banyan trees, and fruit orchards.
Experience: The resort offers guests an immersive experience, complete with custom cultural touches. Guests are welcomed with palm-leaf woven bracelets, herbal infusions, and traditional blessings. Culinary offerings celebrate the Mekong’s rich heritage, including the signature “Breakfast with a Story,” where each dish is paired with the tale of its origin. Wellness is nurtured through a hydrotherapy spa, yoga/Pilates studio, and meditation pavilion.
Strategic Vision for Vietnam and APEC
Vietnam is highlighted as one of Marriott’s most dynamic and promising growth markets. The opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho emphasizes the company’s commitment to introducing travelers to new, culturally rich, and emerging destinations.
Vietnam Presence: Marriott currently operates 30 open properties across Vietnam and has a robust development pipeline of over 50 projects. This expansion spans major urban centers like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as emerging leisure destinations such as Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Ha Giang.
APEC Expansion: Across the APEC region, Marriott now operates 700 properties across 27 brands in 22 countries, with an additional 400 properties in the development pipeline. This momentum is supported by the massive global reach of the Marriott Bonvoy platform, which has nearly 260 million members. The region is one of the world’s fastest-growing travel markets, with Vietnam alone welcoming over 17 million international visitors in the first 10 months of 2025.
