Summit Hotels & Resorts, the largest hospitality chain in the Himalayan region, has announced a significant expansion of its portfolio in North Bengal. The group has signed two new properties—one in the heart of Darjeeling and a second strategic “gateway” property in Siliguri. This move brings the brand’s total presence in the region to over 15 operational hotels, reinforcing its dominance in the Eastern Himalayan tourism circuit.
The expansion is part of Summit’s “Asset-Light” growth strategy, focusing on long-term management contracts for boutique and mid-scale properties that align with its core values of sustainable mountain tourism and local community integration.
Key Highlights of the Expansion:

Darjeeling Boutique Addition: Located near the iconic Mall Road, the new 28-key boutique hotel is designed to offer colonial-style charm combined with modern Himalayan luxury. It features a signature Metta Spa and a multi-cuisine rooftop café with panoramic views of Mount Kanchenjunga.

Siliguri Gateway Project: A 42-room contemporary hotel aimed at both the business traveler and transit tourists heading to Sikkim and Bhutan. The property features extensive MICE facilities, including a high-capacity banquet hall for corporate events and social gatherings.

Operational Excellence: Both properties will be integrated into Summit’s tech-first distribution network, leveraging AI-driven revenue management and its popular loyalty program to drive occupancy.

The brand’s expansion comes at a time when North Bengal is witnessing a surge in “slow-travel” and “workation” travelers. Summit plans to launch three more properties in the Doors region and Kalimpong by the end of 2026, aiming for a total portfolio of 40 hotels across India and Bhutan.
